More about ThinkTags & ThinkQuest New York City ThinkQuest New York City is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization that strives to make a difference in thousands of NYC’s children’s lives, teaching them about cooperation, teamwork, research, project management, and self-esteem, as well as keeping them in school. TQNYC works with at-risk schools and students, ages 9-19 (grades 3-12), developing special training and hands-on, in-class projects for students who would not otherwise have the opportunity to develop 21st Century skills. We work primarily with lower income NYC schools using technology and a competition model. Our two competitions are both technology based and require the students to work in teams: the Internet Challenge inspires students to create educational websites; the Digital Media Competition asks students make Public Service Announcements about their vision for a better world. The students take to the technology with excitement and then learn other skills like: collaboration, writing, researching and project management. The money raised goes directly to our programming where TQNYC provides free training for educators to learn how to bring these projects to these schools. Think! What if you did not know how to use a computer? With such a large emphasis on technology in the work place, it is more important than ever to arm young students with the tools needed to succeed. New York City schools are denying students these skills because there is no money to incorporate real-world technology into the curriculum. In partnership with ThinkQuest NYC, ThinkTags aims to arm students in at-risk schools in New York City with the tools needed to succeed. ThinkTags will use social media to create social good. |
